The Independent Traveller and Wanderlust magazine have again teamed up to present the Travel Photo of the Year competition, with the winners getting the chance to see their shots printed in Traveller and Wanderlust, as well as receiving a photo commission to Ecuador, plus Nikon camera equipment.
The prizes
There are four amateur categories: People, Wildlife, Landscape and Travel Icons (shots of places, events and people that have iconic status in the world of travel). The winner of each category will receive a photo commission to Quito in Ecuador, courtesy of Quito Tourism and LAN Airlines, plus a handy Nikon camera worth £150. Each category runner-up will win a Nikon SLR camera worth £800, and any highly commended shots will win the photographer a Nikon camera worth £380.
In addition, a Portfolio category is open to amateurs and professionals, with a top prize of £5,000. Entrants must assemble five eye-catching images, all themed to fit one of the four amateur categories. A runner-up prize of an £800 Nikon camera will also be awarded.
The shortlisted photographs will be exhibited at the Destinations: The Holiday & Travel Show 2010 at London's Earl's Court (4-7 February) and Birmingham NEC (5-7 March). For details of the show, visit destinationsshow.com.
