Hurtigruten, the Norwegian coastal ferry that links Bergen to the Arctic, has introduced another benefit to lure more travellers aboard: added adventure. Three departures – on 22 October, and 2 and 19 November – will carry an onboard expedition team who will lead daily hikes and organise other activities for passengers. hurtigruten.co.uk

The last in a series of museums dedicated to alpine history and culture has opened in South Tyrol, Italy. Cornwall has gained a new boutique hotel. Chapel House Penzance is a 1790 Georgian townhouse that has undergone a two-year renovation. The six bedrooms are decorated in nautical whites, greens, and blues, and Newlyn School of Art will curate a rotating exhibit of local art in the hotel's public areas. Round trip
Round-the-world flights using the Oneworld alliance of airlines become more appealing and flex-ible from 18 December, when Qantas launches a San Francisco to Sydney route. It can be combined with British Airways services to either city. Initially there will be five flights a week, increasing to six in February. qantas.com

Sussex safari
The Spread Eagle Hotel in Midhurst is offering guided Sussex Wildlife Safaris to the South Downs, with the chance to see local wildlife in its natural habitat, including badgers, deer, owls, foxes and hawks.
