Reposition yourself

October brings cut-price sailings on ships relocating to the Caribbean from the Mediterranean. For example, P&O has a 15-night crossing aboard Azura for £849pp departing Southampton on 31 October. She calls at the Azores, then the Caribbean islands of St Martin, St Kitts, Antigua and St Lucia en route to Barbados. The price includes the homebound flight to Gatwick, Birmingham or Manchester, and works out at just £57 per person per day (pocruises.com).

Scilly Walks

England's southernmost corner is excellent terrain for autumn hikes and with falling visitor numbers, Isles of Scilly Travel is offering two for the price of one-and-a-half on both forms of transport to the islands: Skybus flights from Land's End and Scillonian sailings from Penzance (islesofscilly-travel.co.uk).

Europe on sale

Book today, and you can get an autumn flight on BMI Regional routes at deep discount prices. The weekend offer applies for flights from 17 October for the rest of the year, Bristol to Hamburg and East Midlands to Brussels are on sale for £118 return; Manchester-Aberdeen is £76. Fares include baggage plus free drinks (bmiregional.com).

Brazilian bargains

TAP Portugal flies the widest range of Brazilian cities of any European airline. Test bookings for November and January found fares of £629 to both Rio and Sao Paulo, to Brasília for £699 and to Salvador for £701 (flytap.com).
