Sing a song, write a play and watch the royal wedding as Queen Mary's new season gets underway

Cunard has revealed its creative lineup for Queen Mary 2's transatlantic season, announcing tie-ups with several well-known arts personalities and organizations.

Uniquely, passengers traveling during the luxury liner's seventh transatlantic season, sailing between Southampton in Great Britain and New York, will be able to take songwriting classes as part of the cruise line's enrichment program.

Conducted by professional songwriter and producer Chris Difford, passengers will be able to collaborate in small groups with performers from the ship's performance company, including guitarists, pianists, singers and bass players, before recording their hit in a studio and taking it home.

Another collaboration with 3D production company ReadD will see the opera Carmen, produced by RealD and London's famous Royal Opera House, screened in the ship's on-board theater in 3D technology.

Like several other new cruise ships, such as Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas and the new Disney Dream, other films will be regularly shown on board in 3D, including Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

Members of the prestigious theater company RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) will also take to the seas with each cruise, traveling in costume around each voyage to stage impromptu performances and inprovisions in different locations on board.

In a similar manner to the songwriting class, passengers will be able to pen short scenes which will be performed by the troupe.

For those setting sail on the first transatlantic cruise of the season, a highlight is likely to be the screening of the Royal Wedding, which will be screened in the Queen Mary 2's 1,000 seater Royal Court Theatre and commemorated with a special dinner - a similar arrangement is planned for Cunard's other ships Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth.

It won't be the only place to watch the April 29 royal wedding at sea though - some 14,000 passengers on board P&O Cruises' ships around the world will be able to watch, as will passengers sailing with Princess Cruises and MSC Cruises, among others.
