From colourful animal art collections in Marrakech to talks explaining how to scale Mount Blanc

1. Art show

Marrakech’s La Mamounia hotel is hosting an exhibition of works by French artist Julien Marinetti until September. Sixty colourful pandas, dogs, birds, and more have been placed around the property and its grounds – some more than two metres tall.

2. Quick voyage

The Norwegian coastal ferry line, Hurtigruten, is operating a quick trip to Bergen from 10-12 May, as part of a repositioning voyage. You board at Dover at 1pm, sail to Bergen and disembark just 48 hours later to fly back to London. The price of £299pp includes all meals.

3. Kenya warning

Following last week’s attack on a college in eastern Kenya, in which at least 148 people died, the Foreign Office has strengthened its advice for tourists. Visitors are warned of a high threat of terrorism.

4. Brick by brick

A new hotel is set to open at the Legoland Florida Resort on 15 May. Highlights of the Legoland Hotel include workshop sessions with master model builders, an outdoor pool, and rooms with themes such as “Adventure”, “Pirates”, “Kingdom” and “Lego Friends”. Also opening on the park this summer is Heartlake City, a new land based on the Lego Friends line of toys.

5. Snow talking

The Snow+Rock store in Covent Garden, London is hosting a Destination Talks series during May and June. The events will focus on specific destinations and include tips on training and kit. The first talk, on 9 May, covers Mont Blanc and Alpine mountaineering.

6. Drink up

May sees the return of Whisky Month to Scotland: a series of events centred around Scotland’s national drink, from tastings and masterclasses to musical showcases. The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival kicks off the celebrations in the Highlands on 30 April, taking place until 4 May.

7. Call a cab

A new app is available in London, allowing passengers to share minicab journeys. Splyt lets users search for others taking a similar route at the same time, and divide the cost. The app calculates how much a passenger will save if they share, and they can either accept or reject the request.

8. Sleep tight

There’s nothing worse than waking up after a long flight with a crick in your neck. The Trtl Sleepscarf is a scarf-like contraption with an added “strengthening rib” that supports your head and neck while you doze.
