Travel Agenda: California comes to Canary Wharf; London Skyride; Hotel Americano; Mersey River Festival; Helsinki Design Week; easyJet

Today: California comes to Canary Wharf in London. The financial powerhouse in Docklands will be transformed into an Eighties west coast wonderland, with costumed characters, a boardwalk arcade, seaside games and screenings of The Lost Boys (today) and Top Gun (tomorrow). There's also a chance to win a trip to Santa Cruz or San Diego (welcometocalifornia.co.uk).

This week: Get on your bike and explore London on the Skyride tomorrow. The annual event will see the capital's roads from the Tower of London to St James's Park closed to traffic (goskyride.com/london).

On Monday, the Habita group's first hotel outside Mexico opens in New York City: Hotel Americano adds more style to Chelsea (hotel-americano.com).

In Liverpool, the Mersey River Festival starts on Thursday, with a week of sailing, food and drink, art and watersports displays (liverpoolonthewaterfront.co.uk).

Meanwhile the Finnish capital celebrates its status as next year's World Design Capital, from Friday to 18 September, with a host of events for Helsinki Design Week (helsinkidesignweek.com).

In the diary: easyJet has announced a new route for next spring, from Gatwick to Fuerteventura. The twice-weekly flights depart from 28 March 2012 (easyJet.com).
