Scottish pilgrimage

This year's East Neuk festival, staged in a corner of Fife at the end of this month, celebrates the medieval pilgrimages to nearby St Andrew's. For several centuries, the relics of the Apostle made the city the destination for thousands of devout pilgrims. The Hagen Quartet (pictured) perform on 27 June, and an exhibition in Crail Community Hall runs from 28 June to 1 July; (eastneukfestival.com).

Special case

Globe-Trotter has launched the Union Jack limited edition luggage series designed by Eley Kishimoto in red, white and blue vulcanised fibreboard. Sizes range from a Vanity case (£450) to a small trolley case (£850) and six case sizes (£815 to £1,220) (globetrotter1897.com).

New chapter

The former West of England Eye Hospital in Exeter becomes the second Chapter Hotel, following last year's opening of the Montpellier Chapter in Cheltenham. The Magdalen Chapter opens on Monday, with 59 rooms on five floors of the redbrick landmark. Doubles from £115, room only (themagdalenchapter.com).

Eye in the sky

London's skyline will have a new attraction from Thursday as the Thames cable car (officially "Emirates Air Line") opens between the O2 Arena, Greenwich, and the ExCeL centre at Royal Victoria Dock. It will be able to carry up to 2,500 passengers each hour (tfl.gov.uk).

Wine stops

BK Wine Tours has added to its trips of illustrious wine regions (Champagne, Bordeaux and Tuscany) with escorted group trips to Chile and Argentina as well as South Africa. They depart in February and March 2013 respectively and take in the nations' top wine-producing areas (bkwinetours.com).

The terminal at Manchester Airport where Lonely Planet opens its first UK store this week. From Friday, travellers can choose from 480 guidebooks to accompany their imminent trips, along with luggage, travel accessories and souvenirs. Interactive features will also allow customers to access information via tablets and a touch-screen table (lonelyplanet.com)

Just the ticket

Whether you want to jump theme-park queues or book show tickets on Broadway or in Las Vegas, a new website aims to make life easier. GoSeeDo is a portal for advance booking tickets, excursions, restaurants and day trips abroad. For example, you can book tickets to the Kennedy Space Center for £26 per adult or £21 per child. And, if you're not sure what you'd like to do while on holiday, there's also an "Inspire Me" tool that suggests experiences grouped under various topics such as romance, wildlife, showbiz or food and drink (GoSeeDo.com).

France road rules

From next weekend, motorists and motor-cyclists travelling in France must comply with a new law that makes carrying a breathalyser compulsory. There's a grace period, operating from 1 July to 1 Nov, after which motorists will face an €11 fine. Earlier this year, drivers in France were prohibited from using satnavs and GPS devices capable of detecting speed cameras. And, from next January, motorcyclists will have to wear reflective clothing between the neck and waist while riding anything bigger than 125cc. Ferry companies such as P&O and DFDS now sell single-use breathalysers on board their ships.
