Today: In China, The Harbin Ice Festival is under way in the capital of Heilongjiang province. The annual winter event sees artists and engineers chisel elaborate sculptures, towers and temples from the frozen waters of the Songhua River. The event continues until the end of February (cnto.org).
This week: The Active Travel Show starts at ExCeL in London on Thursday until 15 January, alongside the Outdoors Show, London Bike Show and Boat Show; day tickets (£16) cover all four (theactivetravelshow.co.uk). In Miami, the third International Art Fair takes place 12-16 January in the city's Downtown area, with painting, photography, sculpture and installations. Day tickets, US$10 (£6.70) (mia-artfair.com).
In the diary: In The Netherlands, Art Rotterdam runs between 8-12 February, with a new twist for this year's festival. Visitors can book into the temporary "Hotel Rotterdam" to spend a night in the homes or studios of one of 24 artists. Doubles with breakfast, €60 (wakeupinart.nl).
