Simon Calder's Holiday Helpdesk: Is this deal for Florida just too good?

Q. I am planning a trip to Florida, and have found basically the same holiday to International Drive in Orlando for £600 less through Travel Republic than through Thomson. Should I have any worries - the price seems too good?

Liz Hall

A. Don't worry about financial security. Travel Republic is a highly successful online travel agent, selling air tickets in combination with accommodation. It is part of an even bigger company (DNATA), and therefore your money is safe. The one significant difference: if you book a package holiday through Thomson, you get the benefits of the Package Travel Regulations, which basically say that whatever goes wrong with the holiday, the tour operator has to sort it out. This does not apply with Travel Republic, whose business model is summed up by: "We will find some flights and accommodation, but your contract is with the provider".
