Indonesian village coated with volcanic ash after Semeru volcano eruption

Villages on Java island have been buried by hot ash after Mt Semeru erupted on Saturday.

At least 14 people have died and dozens more are injured, with houses across the Indonesian island destroyed after they were buried to their rooftops.

Volcanic ash has coated the landscape, with many residents suffering burns after they mistook hot mudflow for flooding.

Around 1,300 people have been evacuated from areas close to the eruption and rescue shelters have been set up, equipped with food, face masks and body bags.
