Moment killer whale rips off catamaran’s rudder with its teeth

Footage captures the moment a killer whale rips off the rudder of a catamaran with its teeth.

Captain Daniel Kriz was sailing in the Straight of Gibraltar, towards the Canary Islands, back in April when the incident happened.

In the video, an orca can be seen bashing against a rudder before breaking it off.

The crew aboard the brand new Bali 4.8 “limped to Barbate, Spain, using its motors,” after the attack, a statement, posted on the Catamaran Guru website, said.

Captain Kriz believes the whales are “getting more strategic” in their attacks. He was involved in a similar incident back in 2020.
