Nasa loses contact with Voyager 2 craft after sending wrong command

Nasa has lost contact with its Voyager 2 craft, seemingly by accident.

The space agency said the commands it sent to the probe on 21 July "inadvertently" caused the antenna to point two degrees away from Earth.

Voyager 2 is no longer able to communicate with Earth and the engineers have lost contact with it, Nasa said.

Due to the probe being out of alignment, it cannot communicate with the Deep Space Network (DSN), meaning data being sent is not getting where it needs to be.

Nasa said the craft is set to reset by 15 October, which is thought to resolve this technical glitch.

Once the spacecraft’s antenna is realigned correctly, communications with Earth should resume.
