Caught in the Net: Old-school beats from Barcelona

Comedian, actress and ideas guru Anna Faris is also a movie producer selling ideas around town. Faris just sold an untitled comedy pitch to Paramount based on a funny incident that happened to her in real life.

The Barcelona-based DJ/producer who goes by the name John Talabot – apparently it's a mysterious nom de guerre for another artist aiming to keep his various projects distinct – has a new EP called Family, which will be released on 12-inch vinyl and digitally in early May on the UK label Young Turks. The title track is streaming on the label's website, ind.pn/ g7swo6, and features a lovely restrained vocal from Glasser – the alias of LA singer/musician Cameron Meiserow – twinkling over nostalgic-sounding house beats and blips. A fine combination.

The return of Radiohead

Inevitably, once Radiohead had put out a limited-edition vinyl pressing for last Saturday's Record Store Day event, the two tracks from the release ended up online (it's what they would have wanted, surely). By Monday morning (at the latest) the songs were streaming in various places – ind.pn/ec0x84, ind.pn/goTv5o. Quickly the band offered up the two songs as free downloads at thekingoflimbs. com to anyone who had bought their latest album before 3.30pm on Monday 18 April. Of the two tracks on the record, "Supercollider" with its surging synth line sounds the more intriguing, while "The Butcher" follows in the low-key electro workout vein of the first half of The King of Limbs.

Breakdancing to cello music

I'm not sure why Spike Jonze is blogging for the Opening Ceremony clothing shops but that's by the by: recently he posted a video on their blog of a performance featuring Yo-Yo Ma and the dancer Lil Buck. Spike expains it: "The other day, I was lucky enough to be at an event to bring the arts back into schools and got to see an amazing collaboration between Yo-Yo Ma and a young dancer in LA, Lil Buck. Someone who knows Yo-Yo Ma had seen Lil Buck on YouTube and put them together. The dancing is Lil Buck's own creation and unlike anything I've seen. Hope you enjoy." With Yo-Yo Ma playing the cello and Lil Buck doing a sort of slow-motion breakdance, it is quite stunning. Watch at ind.pn/hGrst1.

TV on the Radio live on Letterman

Opinion has been mixed about TV on the Radio's new album Nine Kinds of Light. Regardless, they most certainly have chops as a live outfit and recently appeared at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York, where David Letterman's chatshow is staged, to perform a 40-minute concert for the Live on Letterman series, ind.pn/hQjFEc. And in fine fettle they are too, powering through songs new and old, and in their opening salvo, frontman Tunde Adebimpe adding a new addition to the small canon of whistling in rock music.
