Album: Dylan LeBlanc, Pauper's Field (Rough Trade)
Stop it, you're spoiling us. Hot on the heels of the magnificent Caitlin Rose album comes another young song-slinger, sauntering into town with a fistful of killer tunes.
Just 20 years old, this Louisianan comes on like Heartbreaker-era Ryan Adams and – in tracks two to five of his debut album, in particular – lives up to the standard set by dad, a Muscle Shoals session player. The playing is restrained, the voice suitably weather-worn, the overall effect that of a rebirth of the country genre. Make mine a double.
