September Tube strikes: Union suspends industrial action

Tube strikes which were to take place in mid-September have been suspended by the Rail, Maritime and Transport union, amid an on-going row over the all-night London Underground service.

The industrial action planned for 8 and 10 September will no longer take place, BBC News reported.

The stoppages would have been the latest protest over the pay and conditions that Transport for London (TfL) has put forward for workers ahead of the introduction of the all-night Tube service.

The RMT explained that it had suspended the industrial action after TfL postponed the launch of the 24-hour Tube service.

However, the union added in a statement that: "we remain in dispute and all industrial action called to not co-operate with night Tube at local level including modelling and trials remains in place.

"If further negotiations prove negative then further industrial action will be called in defence of our agreements and for proper pay for our members."

Earlier in the summer, workers walked out for 24-hours on 8 July and 6 August, forcing millions of passengers to find alternative routes around the capital. As talks continued, strikes planned for 25 August and 27 August were called off at the last minute.

The walkouts and the threat of further action saw the introduction of the all-night service suspended last month.

TfL said in late August that the launch date of 12 September had been "deferred".
