Sam Allardyce has revealed that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho send him a text message after West Ham defeated the Blues' title rivals Manchester City 2-1 on Saturday to thank him for engineering the Hammers' win.

The victory on Saturday saw City remain five points behind leaders Chelsea, and after the 1-1 draw at Manchester United yesterday, the Blues extended their lead over the champions to six points.

West Ham won at Upton Park thanks to goals from Morgan Amalfitano and Mamadou Sakho.

"Jose has just texted me to say 'Well done big man'," the Hammers' manager Allardyce said after the match.

"This shows how important it was for him, never mind for us."

The high-flying Hammers have now won three successive Premier League matches and sit in fourth place.
