Oldham Athletic have today sacked manager Stephen Robinson and brought in John Sheridan for a third spell at the club.
The club acted swiftly to replace the former manager, after they were knocked out of the Checkatrade Trophy by Mansfield on Tuesday night and currently sit two points adrift at the bottom of League One.
Robinson was always up against it. As he began his tenure with just five players on the pay roll he had just over a month before the new season to find an entire squad capable of playing in the third tier of English football.
Problems mounted for the former Northern Ireland No 2 as Oldham were placed under transfer embargo for unpaid bills. Added to that, the FA cup second round loss to Lincoln City and the aforementioned Mansfield loss saw the club miss out on a pay day worth up to £40,000.
John Sheridan takes over once again, after helping the team overcome a relegation fight.
He becomes Oldham’s eighth manager in under four years.

Kevin Nolan has been appointed as the manager of Notts County.
County are just a point above the Sky Bet League Two relegation places, having lost their last 10 games. Chairman Alan Hardy confirmed on Thursday that Nolan, former manager at Leyton Orient, would be taking over: "Kevin is an outstanding leader. We have 20 games left and we need immediate change on the pitch to ensure our EFL safety."
Speaking about the appointment, Nolan said: "I am delighted to be offered the job and I am looking forward to a top day on Saturday.
"We have a squad capable of staying in this league. I am aware of what I am walking into.
"I feel I can improve things. I wouldn't be sitting here as manager otherwise.
"It will be difficult but I have never been one to shy away from a fight.
"My time at Leyton Orient did not put me off, it has made me more hungry to be successful."
