Books I've just finished Russell Banks's Lost Memory Of Skin, which has its flaws, but the man can really write and he's passionate about social justice in America. He chose his country's most marginalised group [sex offenders] as his focus and continued with courage, for which he has my thanks. I've also been reading Daniel Simpson's A Rough Guide to the Dark Side – it's all about why he left The New York Times and the jaw-dropping realities of modern journalism. Great, funny, passionate stuff.

Two things that we've never met anyone who dislikes – The Muppets and the Flight of the Conchords. As such, it was almost inevitable that Conchord Bret McKenzie's writing of songs for the recent Muppets movie was guaranteed to bring a smile to the faces of most right-thinking fans of puppets and well-pitched parody songs.

Mila Kunis stars in this ghastly and tiresomely foul-mouthed rom-com. She plays Jamie, a New York head-hunter who is dumped for having "big eyes" by a jerk in the opening scene.

Amos Lee’s voice is a truly magnificent instrument, evoking the likes of Bill Withers, John Fogerty, James Taylor and, best of all, Sam Cooke.

We all know what a Gormley looks like: gazing straight ahead with his arms limp by his sides, he’s been placed by his creator on bleak seashores, on the roofs of high buildings, and anywhere else you’d least expect to find him, so it was no surprise to be confronted by the back view of a Gormley who remained motionless at the front of the Barbican stage for so long that one was driven out of boredom to read the programme.

The Christmas album still stutters on in mainstream America for the likes of Beyonce (who recorded one with Destiny’s Child) and Justin Bieber.

Dirty Jeans And Mudslide Hymns is full of typical John Hiatt tropes: old-timers and hard times, devotion and desperation, in roughly equal measure.

How many roads must a man walk down, before he... realises that he's seen this somewhere before? Bob Dylan is facing some awkward questions after it emerged that several of the paintings in his latest art exhibition were copied from photographs that he found on the internet.

Bob Dylan's most revolutionary impact on songwriting was his personal presence in his work, autobiographical authenticity not discernible in, say, Cole Porter. British jazz singer Barb Jungr's performance tonight, accompanied by pianist Simon Wallace, is the strongest proof I've heard that his songbook will outlive him. Even if Dylan's records were melted down tomorrow, the restless vitality she finds in their content will survive.
