Home comfort: Dominic, here with his wife, Rachel, featured in 'Bedlam' on Channel 4

TV review: Bedlam, Channel 4

The abiding image from last night's episode of Bedlam (Channel 4) was of two male patients sitting in a grey canteen striking up an impromptu duet of the Christmas carol "Once in Royal David's City". This took place in the South London and Maudsley crisis centre, the focus of this second episode, but also served as a visual metaphor for this mental health documentary series as a whole: determinedly optimistic, despite some very bleak circumstances.

Album review: Pearl Jam, Lightning Bolt (Monkeywrench/Republic)

Four years on from their last outing and nearly 25 years after forming in Seattle, the grunge survivors deliver their 10th album – and it is a work of contrasts. Openers “Getaway” and “Mind Your Manners” are gutsy, full-blooded blasts, but these soon give way to several soft, contemplative ballads.

Annie Lennox has called for music video ratings

Annie Lennox calls for music video ratings system to protect children from 'dark' and 'pornographic' material

'You don’t want to see your seven-year-old girls twerking all over the place,' says the Eurythmics star

Album review: Van Morrison, Moondance (deluxe) (Warner Bros)

A good “deluxe” remaster job will do at least two things: one, it’ll strip away centuries of digital compression and make the music sound as if you’ve never heard it properly before; two, it’ll include additional material that gives insight into how the finished work was shaped.

Album review: Prefab Sprout, Crimson/Red (Icebreaker Records)

The first thing to say is that Paddy McAloon’s first album of new material in 13 years will not disappoint any of the fans he has amassed in the nearly 30 years of Prefab Sprout’s existence. Crimson/Red sounds exactly as you would want it to, contains lyrics as sophisticated as any McAloon has penned and comes complete with authentic 1980s production values.

Britney Spears in her new video for 'Work B***c'

Britney Spears: 'I am too sexualised by the music industry'

The singer said she would prefer to tone down her music videos

Jack-Alain Léger: Writer and singer who worked under multiple guises

As "Melmoth", Jack-Alain Léger was an award-winning singer-songwriter; as Paul Smaïl he wrote the scandalous "memoirs" of a young working-class Moroccan immigrant; as Dashiell Hedayat he was a furtive psychedelic rock star; and under his official name of Léger he penned the million-selling thriller Monsignore. He had many pseudonyms and disguises in his varied careers as a militant manic-depressive homosexual, public intellectual, prolific author, hippy music legend and bestseller hack, an unholy Gallic combination of Syd Barrett and Jeffrey Archer.
