Click, Pack and Go: our pick of the week’s travel deals
Thursday 10 December 2009
With early indications suggesting that winter sports holiday bookings are down this year there is at least some good news for consumers, with some big discounts on accommodation and lift passes.
For example, Iglu Ski ( igluski.com) is offering the chance to spend Christmas in Meribel with nearly 50 per cent off at the four-star Chalet Isba. The price of £699 per person includes flights from Gatwick on 20 December, transfers and seven nights’ catered accommodation. Ideal for a big family get together, the chalet sleeps up to 21 and comes with a private cinema, sauna and hot tub. Of if you fancy something a bit more intimate, VIP Chalets ( vip-chalets.com) is offering a fully-catered chalet in Meribel for £899 per person. Chalet Mariefleur sleeps up to 11 and the price includes flights departing 20 December.
Alternatively, Rocket Ski ( rocketski.com) is offering a seven-night half board ski break in the French resort of Rasour for just £209 per person. The price includes accommodation at the Clubhotel Le Morgan, return flights departing Gatwick or Luton on 16 January and transfers, based on four sharing. Seeing as it’s the season of goodwill, the no-frills airline Jet2 is staging a competition to win unlimited flights to ski resorts during the winter season. Log onto the website ( jet2.com/goldentickets) anytime before 21 December for the chance to win flights from Leeds/Bradford, Manchester and Belfast.
From golden tickets to golden sands: according to hotels.com, internet searches for holidays to Dubai have increased 570 per cent since Dubai World announced its financial woes to the rest of the world. Rooms at the five-star Hyatt Regency on the Deira Corniche start at £121 per night in January through hotels.co.uk. Or you could spend New Year’s Eve at Atlantis The Palm for £1,199 per person, booked through Netflights.com. The price includes Emirates flights from Gatwick, Manchester, Glasgow or Birmingham and five nights’ room only accommodation.
Thailand also remains good value, with Virgin Holidays + Hip Hotels ( vhiphotels.com) offering a seven-night stay at the Evason Hua Hin for £889, including Etihad flights via Abu Dhabi departing Heathrow 18 January, transfers and room only accommodation. And finally Sri Lanka is aiming to lure back visitors with deals such as eight nights’ all inclusive for £649 at the Mermaid Hotel in Kalurara on the south east coast. Offered by Travelmood ( travelmood.com), the deal includes Oman Air flights via Muscat departing Heathrow on 18 January and transfers.
