Saturday Night Live: Melissa McCarthy returns as an angrier Sean Spicer

Melissa McCarthy's Sean Spicer impression wasn't only pitch perfect, it was downright awards worthy.

The comedian picked up the award for Oustanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series - for her stint as guest host on Saturday Night Live - at the Creative Arts Emmys, a precursor to the main event on Sunday.

Of course, McCarthy's appearances on the show this year are most memorable for her take on the former White House press secretary, as she tried to attack reporters with either her podium or a handy water gun. Not that Spicer was a fan of her impersonation.

Meanwhile, the BBC's Planet Earth II nabbed two prizes - Outstanding Documentary or Non-Fiction Series and Outstanding Cinematography for a Non-Fiction Program - while Ava DuVernay's Netflix doc The 13th nabbed three.

James Corden walked away with two awards on the night, with Carpool Karaoke winning Oustanding Variety Special for the second year in a row and Corden himself being honoured for his hosting skills at the Tony Awards in June of last year.

HBO's Westworld swept up many of the technical achievements, including visual effects and sound mixing, only boosting its chances of walking away as the big winner of Sunday's ceremony.

You can check out our list of predictions here. The 2017 Emmys will take place on 17 September, on CBS at 8E/5P.
