It’s a big game for…

Divock Origi. The Liverpool youngster faces Everton for the first time since Ramiro Funes Mori’s ‘scandalous’ tackle put him out of the game for more than a month. Origi suggested that Funes Mori had failed to apologise personally to him, instead issuing “an official message”, and the Belgian has warned that Monday night’s clash “will be war”. Expect fireworks at the very least.

Remember when…

Daniel Sturridge’s late equaliser salvaged Liverpool a point in November 2013? The two sides met at Goodison Park in one of the most memorable Merseyside clashes in recent years. With Everton seemingly set for a 3-2 victory, Sturridge’s late goal in the 89th minute ensured the spoils were shared.

Player to watch…

Simon Mignolet. The Belgian impressed on his return against Middlesbrough and is expected to start once again tonight. With question marks continuing to hang over himself and fellow ‘keeper Loris Karius, Mignolet will need to keep his cool in arguably his side’s biggest game of the season so far. The pressure is on and it’ll be very interesting indeed to see how he handles it.

SECOND HALF KICK-OFF: Everton restart having made a half-time change. After struggling towards the end of the first half, James McCarthy will play no further part and will be replaced by veteran yellow card machine Gareth Barry in midfield. Will the experienced head of the 35-year-old bring some coolness to proceedings? Will it help us find a shot on target?

48 mins: Three minutes into the second period and Liverpool earn their first corner of the game. Jordan Henderson's delivery is comfortably dealt with by the Everton defence.

50 mins: Liverpool's best chance of the game! A hopeful punt forward from James Milner has Firmino racing towards goal, and having brushed off the feeble challenge of Funes Mori, the Brazilian looked odds on to open the scoring. However, alert goalkeeping from Stekelenburg kept a first attempt out, and when Firmino centred to set-up a second, Mane and Adam Lallana collided and the opportunity was allowed to pass.

54 mins: Inspired. Innovative. Off target. Another hopeful touchline punt, this time from Seamus Coleman found Romelu Lukaku lurking in the area, but with the ball high and the striker's back to goal, there seemed little on. However, the Belgian pivoted majestically in the air and sent a backwards header over both the stranded Simon Mignolet and, sadly, the frame of the goal.

56 mins: The first yellow card of the game is shown to an irate Dejan Lovren. The Croatian defender barges into Lukaku as the striker threatened to turn away in midfield, and Mike Dean was never going to allow him to get away with that.

58 mins: The goalkeeper made of fibreglass, Maarten Stekelenburg, is once again receiving physiotherapy treatment. This time it was a collision with his own defender, Leighton Baines, that saw the Dutchman come off second best; the two had slid in to prevent Sadio Mane after another Firmino back-heel had presented a glimpse of opportunity for the Senegalese forward.

62 mins: Joel Robles is stripped and ready to enter the fray as Everton's new goalkeeper for the night. Maarten Stekelenburg has proved that he is unable to continue and will now, with the help of a physio half his size, limp to the touchline. Will that delay and change effect the hosts most or the visitors?
