It’s a big game for…
Divock Origi. The Liverpool youngster faces Everton for the first time since Ramiro Funes Mori’s ‘scandalous’ tackle put him out of the game for more than a month. Origi suggested that Funes Mori had failed to apologise personally to him, instead issuing “an official message”, and the Belgian has warned that Monday night’s clash “will be war”. Expect fireworks at the very least.
Remember when…
Daniel Sturridge’s late equaliser salvaged Liverpool a point in November 2013? The two sides met at Goodison Park in one of the most memorable Merseyside clashes in recent years. With Everton seemingly set for a 3-2 victory, Sturridge’s late goal in the 89th minute ensured the spoils were shared.
Player to watch…
Simon Mignolet. The Belgian impressed on his return against Middlesbrough and is expected to start once again tonight. With question marks continuing to hang over himself and fellow ‘keeper Loris Karius, Mignolet will need to keep his cool in arguably his side’s biggest game of the season so far. The pressure is on and it’ll be very interesting indeed to see how he handles it.
Past three meetings…

Odds...
Everton win: 16/5
Draw: 13/5
Liverpool win: 19/20
67 mins: Ross Barkley receives the yellow card that has been threatening him for an hour - and now it's all kicking off. The Everton midfielder dived in with a horrible challenge on Jordan Henderson, and that prompted Dejan Lovren - already on a yellow card - to react. With home players sensing the opportunity to engage the cautioned defender, tempers rose with Lukaku pointing accusing fingers at all and sundry. Finally, Coleman followed Barkley into the book but, in truth, the England man should have seen red.
72 mins: Everton's third and final change is one that Ronald Koeman was all set to make before Stekelenburg's injury. It's another show of faith in youth from the Dutch manager, who introduces 19-year-old Dominic Calvert-Lewin in place of Enner Valencia.
75 mins: A first Everton attempt on target, but that's adding a descriptive flourish to Ashley Williams header that it really does not deserves. The Welshman's connection from Barry's free-kick was soft, and easily intercepted by Mignolet.
80 mins: Ten minutes to play (plus a whopping amount of stoppage) and still anyone could end up the winner - apart from those people who have actually paid to endure this match.
On that sombre note though, Firmino nearly does just that. The Brazilian met Henderson's corner from the right on the volley, but his sidefooted effort was palmed out by substitute goalkeeper Robles.
84 mins: Ross Barkley isn't the brightest. On a yellow card after getting away with an awful studs up challenge on Henderson's calf, the Everton midfielder then kicks the ball away as the Liverpool captained attempted to take possession of the ball in order to release a quick free-kick. He's been walking a tightrope of trouble since the tenth minute.
85 mins: Liverpool made a double substitution a couple of minutes back, by the way. I forgot to tell you as I was trying to think of a diplomatic way to refer to Barkley as an idiot. Emre Can and Daniel Sturridge have replaced Adam Lallana and Divock Origi.
90 mins: Daniel Sturridge looks furious as he awaits a Liverpool corner from the left. It must be down to the fact that he's had to watch this garbage from the dugout when he's still got Westworld on the Sky planner at home.
Meanwhile, the fourth official has become the most unpopular man in football by signalling that there will be eight (E-I-G-H-T) more minutes in stoppage time.
90+2 mins: I've got to write player ratings for this game at full time. I was already toying with giving Barkley a four, but he's just wasted a well positioned free-kick by booting it out for a goalkick. Three it is.
90+4 mins: GOAL! EVERTON 0 LIVERPOOL 1:
Sadio Mane has won the Merseyside derby for Liverpool! Deep into stoppage time and the deadlock has finally been broken! Fittingly for a game devoid of quality, the goal was a scrappy one but the red half of the city will not care one bit. Tracked by Leighton Baines, Daniel Sturridge tried to work an angle for himself outside the box, eventually getting a scuffed daisycutter away from 20 yards. Creeping away from the fingertips of Joel Robles, the ball ricocheted off the base of the right post, and when it bounced back into the middle, there was Mane, reacting quickest to prod home into the empty net. This game has not deserved a winner, but late, late, late in the day, it has got one.
