Even in a tacky crime novel the involvement of an evil twin would seem a bit far-fetched. But this was the excuse used by cyclist Tyler Hamilton after failing a doping test in 2005. The American said the irregularities in his test were due to small amounts of different blood which came from his twin that died in utero. But the excuse didn't work and the Olympic gold medallist was banned for two years.
