Haji Wright sent Coventry into the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley after the USA international’s 100th-minute winner secured a 3-2 win to stun Wolves.

In a thrilling quarter-final, the Sky Blues appeared to have squandered their chance at Molineux, having led 1-0 and dominated for large spells, when the Premier League side came from behind to lead 2-1 late thanks to Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hugo Bueno’s goals.

But Ellis Simms’ second goal of the game in the 97th minute appeared to secure extra-time, but Mark Robbins’ side quickly hit their opponents with another fine goal as Wright’s curler three minutes later sent the Championship side into the final four for the first time since 1987.

Coventry will now look forward to Sunday’s semi-final draw before switching focus back to the Championship and their bid for a play-off place.

Robins speaks to ITV

Coventry manager Mark Robins, who won the FA Cup as a player with Manchester United in 1990, says that the win “means a lot to everybody”.

“I’ve been tasked with quite a bit this season, the new owners have wanted a cup run, they’ve got a cup run.

“It’s not an easy feat, not an easy task but I’ve got incredible support and staff around the team.

“We created some really good openings. Some of the football we played was really good and I’m really proud, it’s a really proud day.”

Asked about their chances of making the final, Robins added: “Don’t spoil it, reality bites and you look at who is left in the competition, [but] we know we’ve overcome a real giant today, a really good team.”

FULL-TIME: Wolves 2-3 Coventry

A stat to show you the tumultuous time that Coventry have been through in recent years. This is the fourth time they’ll visit Wembley since the 2016-17 season; that season was for the Football League Trophy , in which they beat Oxford United 2-1.

The next season, they won the League 2 play-off final 3-1 against Exeter City, while last season (2022-23) they lost the Championship play-off final on penalties to Luton Town.

Heartbreak for Wolves, who thought they were going to win until added time. Even after the equaliser, they looked like they had accepted extra-time instead of pushing for a winner.

Their focus will now return to the Premier League. They sit in ninth on 41 points, so are almost guaranteed as safe from relegation, so O’Neil’s focus will be on achieving as high a finish as possible.

That finish from Wright to win it was very impressive. He took it first time and bent it into the far corner, with Sa having no chance. It was Henry-eqsue.

This will be Coventry’s first semi-final since winning the trophy in 1987.

Simms and Wright speak to ITV

Ellis Simms and Haji Wright are first to speak to the media after a famous win.

Simms calls it “a great occasion, adding that “the fans were amazing”.

“It’s up there, if not the most important win of my career so far, it’s unbelievable.

“To get to Wembley is unbelievable. I’m so proud of the lads today, we dug in. It’s going to be a great occasion.

Wright adds that Coventry “have got a lot of quality in our side, we keep believing and trying”.

“It’s amazing, hopefully we can enjoy it.”

Simms adds that Coventry are “just going to enjoy it”.

“We want to enjoy it, but on the day we’re going to give it our all.”

That was a crazy finish to an entertaining game. Coventry were 1-0 up on 83 minutes, and by 100 minutes they had conceded an equaliser, looked like they were going to go out, equalised themselves and then won it!

Coventry are heading to Wembley once more, as they did last year for the play-off final. They’ll know their route to the final tomorrow, but for now the fans will dream of another showpiece game at the home of football.

FULL-TIME: And Wright has indeed won it for the Championship side! The whistle goes before Wolves have another chance to attack, and Coventry players and fans alike go wild. An amazing end to a thoroughly entertaining game, and one that has really shown why the FA Cup still retains its myth and importance in many corners of the country.

GOAL!!!! WOLVES 2-3 COVENTRY

99 mins: Oh my word!!! Coventry are going to Wembley again!!!

A cut-back comes in from the touchline and falls straight to Simms. He takes a second and lays it off to Haji Wright, who opens his body up and curls it into the far corner!! That must be the winner, surely?
