Not all of Selena Gomez’s latest releases are on Spotify – the pop icon and actor is making the most of her fresh-faced look through her thriving cosmetics brand, Rare Beauty, named after her 2020 album.

The brand has gained a fandom all of its own (racking up more than 7 million followers on Instagram alone), thanks to its refreshing approach to skincare and make-up.

Challenging social media’s craving for perfection, Rare Beauty was founded in February 2019, producing products formulated to make you feel good, without “hiding what makes you unique”, and it’s continuing to update its product range.

In December 2023, Gomez released her first body care collection called find comfort, which includes a body lotion, aromatherapy pen, fragrance mist and hand cream – all encouraging self-care and comfort. As Rare Beauty says: “It’s the tiny moments of comfort that go a long way.”

But how does the collection live up to these values? And is Rare Beauty worth the hype? I put the latest range’s products to the test, to bring you an honest review.

How I tested Rare Beauty’s Find Comfort range

I put Selena Gomez’s skincare products to the test (Mimi Broughton)

I road-tested the body care collection by incorporating the products into my daily routine for a few days, lathering, spritzing and soothing morning and night. I assessed the scent, packaging and product formulas. While I’ve not used them long enough for any long-term effects, keep reading for my initial thoughts.

Rare Beauty find comfort hydrating hand cream

Rare-beauty-hand-cream-indybest
  • Size: 53ml
  • Key ingredients: Niacinamide, peach flower extract, ashwagandha extract
  • Why we love it
    • Lovely packaging
    • Effects last even after washing your hands
    • Calming scent

What I first noticed about this product is its calming aroma – with a mix of rhubarb, violet, pomelo and lemon zest, the hand cream has a cosy, tranquil scent that has a zing that isn’t too overpowering. It’s also packed with vitamins and antioxidants, such as niacinamide and ashwagandha extract (a natural de-stressor) to hydrate the skin.

The consistency is smooth, creamy, non-greasy, and very easy to apply, and it left my hands feeling gently moisturised and nourished (even after washing, which is rare with hand creams).

As for the packaging, the unique shape and design certainly stuck out to me, and it’s of course very aesthetically pleasing. What’s more, it’s super practical, opening with just one twist.

Overall, it’s effective at delivering moments of comfort for dry and tired hands.

Rare Beauty Find Comfort stop and soothe aromatherapy pen

Aromatherapy-pen-rare-beauty-indybest
  • Size: 5ml
  • Key ingredients: Peppermint, lavender and tonka bean aromatherapy oils
  • Why we love it
    • Relaxing scent
    • Great for taking on the go
  • Take note
    • Easy to dispense too much product

Whether you are feeling stressed at work, stuck in traffic, or simply decompressing at home, this aromatherapy pen provides on-the-go comfort whenever you need it. With a blend of aromatherapy oils, including lavender and peppermint, it smells beautifully fresh, floral and calming.

It’s super easy to use – simply press down the bottom to dispense a small amount of product then use the rounded silicone end to gently massage it into your pressure points. However, the application is a little tricky to control, and it’s easy to dispense too much product. Plus, with its water-gel consistency, it sometimes gets a bit messy, but having said that, it rubs in well after a short massage.

The pen is a great pick for those who want a bit of relief when feeling down, and I found it does help alleviate stress.

Rare Beauty Find Comfort body and hair fragrance mist

Find Comfort body & hair fragrance mist
  • Size: 100ml
  • Ingredients: Niacinamide, biotin, peach flower extract
  • Why we love it
    • Adds a touch of shine
    • Nice lightweight formula
    • Great scent
  • Take note
    • Not the most powerful results

This soft mist has an uplifting scent of comforting rhubarb and jasmine, with a hint of lemon zest. I found it super revitalising as I spritzed it onto my skin and hair, and I loved that it’s lightweight and doesn’t melt away make-up, instead leaving skin (and hair) feeling soft and hydrated.

It contains biotin, which Rare Beauty says gives hair “instant shine and moisture, while strengthening, restoring elasticity, and protecting it from breakage”. As I have fairly thick, wavy hair, I find it tricky to get a decent level of shine to it, but this product certainly helped. I wouldn’t say the results were as powerful as the other products in the collection, but I can see the subtle beauty in this fragrance mist.

Rare Beauty find comfort hydrating body lotion

Rare-beauty-body-lotion-indybest
  • Size: 250ml
  • Key ingredients: Vitamins and antioxidants such as niacinamide, peach flower extract, and ashwagandha extract
  • Why we love it
    • Keeps skin hydrated all day
    • Non-sticky formula

For a lightweight, fresh, moisturising body lotion, this is one of the best I have tried. I don’t like lotions that are greasy and stick to your clothes, nor do I like ones with an overpowering scent, so, this product ticks all the boxes. It rubs in easily and makes skin feel soft and hydrated. The comforting aroma (similar to the rest of the find comfort products) is fantastic, too.

The lotion is infused with vitamins and antioxidants such as niacinamide, a form of vitamin B3 that helps support the skin’s moisture barrier. After applying it in the morning, my skin felt hydrated for the rest of the day.

My one gripe is that the design of the bottle could be improved – you have to flip it and squeeze the lotion out of a small hole. It was tricky to do so and only a small amount came out at a time. You can, however, use the find comfort body lotion pump (£4, Rarebeauty.com), to make the process a bit easier.

The verdict: Rare Beauty’s find comfort range

From the hand cream to the body lotion, Rare Beauty’s find comfort range deserves a spot on your wishlist. We found the products to be comforting and nourishing, and we love the fact all the bottles are made from 97 per cent post-consumer recycled plastic. Even better, 1 per cent of the brand’s annual sales go directly to the Rare Impact Fund, which is helping to expand mental health services in under-served communities. Selena Gomez is using her status to bring light to the beauty industry and help women around the world feel empowered by their unique beauty.
