The writer Anne Rice has had a change of heart. After inveighing against the producers' decision to cast Tom Cruise in the long-awaited movie version of the first of her Vampire Lestat novels, a two-page advertisement appeared in the New York Times quoting Ms Rice: 'I was honoured and stunned to discover how faithful this film was to the spirit, the content and the ambience of the novel Interview with the Vampire, and of the script for it which I wrote.' . . .
