Let's float that idea... Boris's 2012 biosphere
A futuristic floating park has been proposed for the 2012 Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
The £20m Thames River Park will be a river-borne walkway between St Paul's cathedral and the Tower of London and will also be a showcase for British achievement, with a series of spherical pavilions each devoted to a different theme. These are likely to include green energy, leisure, education, innovation, culture and performance. It will be funded by private sector investment and has been shortlisted for the Best Conceptual Project in tomorrow night's London Planning Awards.
The river walk is expected to be temporary, but the permanent legacy will be an enhanced river frontage, new ferry terminals, a swimming pool and new mooring facilities.
