Visual Arts

I would thoroughly recommend Janet Cardiff's work, The Forty Part Motet, currently on show at BALTIC, in which each individual in the choir is represented as a disembodied speaker in a performance of Thomas Tallis's sublime "Spem in Alium". I enjoyed Robert Holyhead's subtle and canny watercolour drawings at Peer, and Amikam Toren's exhibition at Anthony Reynolds in which the mundane arrows on packaging took flight, and a crocked clothes horse seemed to bear the weight of the world.

Books

I am currently reading All the King's Men by Robert Penn Warren – a vivid bittersweet account of corruption in American politics written by a poet. Just read and would recommend How to Read a Poem by Terry Eagleton.

Music

I have been enjoying Jack White, MGMT and some classical stuff. I listen to a fair amount of Radio 6.

Television

I've been gripped by Olympics and Paralympics – Mo Farah and Dave Weir's 5,000-metre races being my highlights. I really enjoyed Homeland and I consume box sets, most recently comedies Cheers, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
