THE DUKE of Edinburgh is to chair a committee advising on the restoration of Windsor Castle. The announcement has been made by Peter Brooke, Secretary of State for National Heritage. The Prince of Wales will be deputy chairman.

The other members, whom Buckingham Palace describes as 'there as themselves' rather than as representatives of the bodies they represent, include Lord St John of Fawsley, chairman of the Royal Fine Art Commission, Jocelyn Stevens, chairman of English Heritage and Frank Duffy, the new president of the Royal Institute of British Architects. The first meeting will be held in a fortnight's time.
