George Condo opened his first major British retrospective at London's Hayward Gallery yesterday. The US artist, whose portraits blend cartoonish with classical influences, produced a controversial 2006 painting of the Queen denounced as "a toothless Cabbage Patch doll". "We have been waiting a long time for this show," said Hayward Gallery director Ralph Rugoff.
