Spot the famous artist in disguise: Gavin Turk discovers a purple patch at the Contemporary Arts Society gala

The beard is bushier than usual, the hat aiding the disguise - it could only be Gavin Turk blending seemlessly into the background at the fundraising gala for the Contemporary Arts Society.

Guests, including the renowned British artist along with his wife Debora Curtis in a flamenco and feather combo, were encouraged to dress according to the theme ‘RE-', and re-cycle, re-create, re-use, re-think and re-imagine their usual image.

Art luminaries, high-profile art collectors, and celebrities helped raise over £250,000 at The Contemporary Arts Society Annual Fundraising Gala in London on Tuesday - money which will help purchase new works of contemporary art for museums across the country.

Turk, who is Contemporary Art Society Artist Ambassador, said of the evening: “The Contemporary Art Society was able to put my work into national museums across the country and, as an artist, that's really where you want your art to be. It's how to keep your art alive - it's where it will survive.”

Other high-profile guests to attend the evening included Honorary Chair Livia Firth and her Oscar-winning husband, Colin Firth, Nancy Dell-Olio, Nicolai Frahm, Jeremy Deller and Turner Prize winning artists Elizabeth Price.

32 contemporary artworks by established and emerging artists were sold at the event endorsed by the prestigious Contemporary Art Society.

Highlights of the auction included a marble sculpture by Daniel Silver, which sold for £21,000, Michael Landy's Saint Catherine Wheel 6, selling for £16,000, and an incredible blue crystals work by Roger Hiorns, which sold for a hammer price of £20,000.
