A portrait of American Vogue's formidable editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, has been acquired by the National Portrait Gallery in London for £125,000.

American artist Alex Katz painted British-born Ms Wintour in 2009. On show from today, it is the first of his works to enter the gallery's collection, and the first time Ms Wintour has sat for a portrait.
