Huge Kanye West kissing Kanye West mural painted over by creator for a reported $100,000

It remains unknown who paid for the one-off lifesize print

The metre-high mural of Kanye West kissing Kanye West is no more after its creator claimed he had accepted $100,000 to paint over it.

Scott Marsh’s graffiti went viral when it appeared on the wall of Zigi’s Wine and Cheese Bar in the creative Chippendale district of Sydney last month.

The Australian artist was inspired by a photo of the rapper and his reality TV star wife Kim Kardashian kissing at the 2015 Grammy, which Buzzfeed memorably edited to replace Kardashian with another Kanye in a nod to his famously uncontrollable ego.

But Kanye’s management was not best pleased when pictures of Marsh’s mural started spreading online, with the artist telling website Life Without Andy that he was contacted by a representative who offered him a five-figure sum to remove it.

“I asked for six figures and a lifetime supply of Yeezy Boosts,” Marsh said, adding that he wanted West to buy a lifesize print of the artwork. He reportedly did not receive a response.

Marsh has now painted over “Kanye Loves Kanye” and sold said print for $100,000, but he did not reveal the buyer’s identity. “It’s been real Yeezy,” he wrote beneath a photo of the mural being removed on Instagram.

“I suppose if Kanye really loves Kanye as much as everyone says he does, Kanye on Kanye action would be right up his alley,” Marsh told Daily Mail Australia. “This work has become a glowing example of the power of social media, the internet and the modern cult of celebrity.”

Representatives for Kanye West did not immediately respond to our request for comment.
