An Andy Warhol self-portrait from 1967 went on public display yesterday for the first time in 37 years.

The red-and-white screen print, which will be auctioned next week at Christie's in London, disappeared into private hands in 1974 and has not been exhibited since. The 6ft-high work is expected to fetch up to £5m.

A Warhol portrait of Mick Jagger is among other works in Wednesday's contemporary art sale as well as pieces by Jean-Michel Basquiat, the American former graffiti artist, and British artist Damien Hirst. The sale is expected to make about £50m.
