Banksy's Dismaland “bemusement park” has hosted its first newly married couple.

Rachelle Summerson-Wright and Simon Christie-Irwin decided to skip their planned three-week honeymoon in Cuba to recreate their wedding in Banksy's derelict theme park in Weston, Somerset.

The couple, who officially married in Newcastle last week, cancelled their travel plans to instead visit Banksy's latest instillation and take wedding pictures at the theme park.

The pair wore their wedding dress and suit, along with Disney-style mouse ears for their romantic outing.

Every year, thousands of couples tie the knot at Disneyland – "the happiest place on earth". The resort in Florida even has a Wedding Pavilion with a view of Cinderella’s Castle.

Rachelle and Simon opted for the "truly depressing" feel of Banksy's bemusement park instead.

Wedding planner and blogger, George Watts, who met the couple, said: "Dismaland's first official wedding couple had landed at the bemusement park. This was ridiculous and clearly a fatalistic moment."

Dismaland's attractions include a gothic fairy tale castle, a dead Cinderella being photographed in her up-turned carriage by the paparazzi and a toy boat ride of refugees trying to reach the UK.

The park features some of Banksy's art and also work from artists such as Damien Hirst, Jenny Holzer and Jimmy Cauty.

Crowds of thousands come to the instillation theme park's opening weekend at Weston-super-Mare's abandoned lido on 22 August.

The bemusement park, which is Banksy’s first UK show in six years, will remain open for a total of five weeks, with online ticket sales are due to begin on 25 August.
