Photographer Steve Lehman, whose work has illustrated `National Geographic' and `Time', has been visiting Tibet for 15 years, recording the changes in political oppression and processes of assimilation. He believes that `over the long term, China's presence in Tibet will prove to be economically unviable.' The resulting book, `The Tibetans', incorporates travel and news photography, portraiture and snapshots of prisoners, and covers Tibetans in their country as well as in exile. The nuns from the Dolma Ling Nunnery in India, above, are debating Buddhist logic. The process is intended to teach Buddhist philosophy and sharpen the students' analytical skills.
