On October 12, Del Ray Books will release a new book, The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, by J.W. Rinzler about what some consider the fifth and best film in the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
The author also edited and wrote The Making of Star Wars: The Definitive Story Behind the Original Film and The Complete Making of Indiana Jones.
Director Ridley Scott wrote the foreword for the new volume.
The footage in this book video explains the in-depth research into the making of the film from the weather to the creation of the Yoda puppet. It offers a look inside the Lucasfilm Archives, where Rinzler had complete access to never-before-seen photos and concept art by Ralph McQuarrie.
In The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, items from the film's production that had been left in archives boxes for more than 30 years are revealed, illustrating this collectible book for Star Wars fans. It also includes an interview with George Lucas and the author.
