Game of Thrones: Daenerys’ dragon Drogon flies away in finale of show

*Spoiler warning for the Game of Thrones finale*

George RR Martin has written a blog post to commemorate his first meeting with Game of Thrones showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff, along with an update on The Winds of Winter.

The author of the original epic fantasy series said the series had been a “wild ride” from the pilot to the series finale that aired this week.

He promised that he would eventually finish long-delayed The Winds of Winter but did not want to give fans any specific inclination of when, because “I’ve tried that before, only to burn you all and jinx myself… but I will finish it, and then will come A Dream of Spring. So there you have it. Sort of.”

Martin also addressed the plot of the final three seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones, which were not based on plots from his books. He seemed to address fan discontent with the ending on the show, which saw Bran Stark become king and Jon Snow banished to the Night’s Watch after killing Daenerys.

While events in seasons 6, 7 and 8 were based on notes Martin provided to Weiss and Benioff, fans are still wondering if The Winds of Winter will have the same ending.

“How will it all end? I hear people asking,” he wrote. “The same ending as the show? Different? Well… yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes. And no. And yes.”.

“I expect these last two books of mine will fill 3000 manuscript pages between them before I’m done… and if more pages and chapters and scenes are needed, I’ll add them.”

“Book or show, which will be the ‘real’ ending?” he continued. “It’s a silly question. How many children did Scarlett O’Hara have?” he said, referencing the heroine of Gone with the Wind.

“How about this? I’ll write it. You read it. Then everyone can make up their own mind, and argue about it on the internet.”
