"All I want for Christmas is...Mariah Carey's new children's book." Maybe not, but 3-year-olds could find the story in their stockings this December.

The US singer, 43, has penned a festive work of fiction with her husband, America's Got Talent host Nick Cannon.

The couple’s twins, Moroccan and Monroe, feature in Roc and Roe's Twelve Days of Christmas, which has been illustrated by the acclaimed New York Times artist AG Ford.

Scholastic has confirmed it is publishing the picture book, which is set to hit shelves in autumn this year.

Ken Geist, vice-president, described Carey's debut as "an adorable spin on a classic tale, sprinkled with humour and heart".

Released in 1994, "All I Want for Christmas Is You" has established Carey as an icon of the holiday season.

The pop song consistently ranks among the top Christmas tracks each year and is one of the UK’s best-selling hits of all-time. Globally, it has generated an estimated $50 million in royalties.

Whether Roc and Roe’s Twelve Days of Christmas can rival Carey’s past musical triumphs remains to be seen...
