The number of children with no books rises

One in three children do not have a single book of their own at home, a survey has found.

The National Literacy Trust said the figure has trebled in seven years, which is concerning as children with no books tend to have lower literacy standards.

It also found that one in six adults left school at 16 unable to read fluently.
