Pick of the picture books

As presenter Nicholas Crane never tired of exclaiming in the first series of the BBC's Bafta-winning Coast, "Remember, you are never more than 72 miles from the sea!" Far from being a finite concept, that series, starting and ending at Dover, seems to have spawned a whole Coast industry, with two subsequent series, Coast From the Air and now Coast: The Walks (Ebury, £16.99). How many more ways can they find to get profitably around the edge of Britain (and Ireland)? This latest edition, though, is intriguing and inventive. Over 50 guided walks, each with an Ordnance Survey map, take in the seaside from Dublin to Dundee to Bristol Docks, with difficulty ratings and information on local history.
