THE FILM

CARRINGTON

fter screenwriting success with Dangerous Liaisons, Christopher Hampton directs his script of the mismatched love between Dora Carrington (Emma Thompson) and Lytton Strachey (Jonathan Pryce)

"A slyly entertaining but also moving look at thwarted passion in the age of pyjamas," said Adam Mars-Jones. "Hampton's debut is more than just promising," according to the Guardian. Pryce won the Best Actor award at Cannes, but some felt the film didn't deserve the Special Jury Prize. The Times said, "Aside from Pryce's performance, this cold stumbling film gives little lasting nourishment."
