Othello, Cottesloe, National Theatre, London SE1 (0171-928 3232) 7pm

There are still a few voices bemoaning the supposed blight of theatrical political correctness. "The role of Othello should be returned to white actors," they cry. One glance at the CVs of most black actors might persuade them otherwise. Unless they're ready to play pimps or whores, decent roles for black actors are still the exception rather than the rule. Adrian Lester, ironically an actor who has made great strides in colour-blind casting, was originally to have played the Moor in Sam Mendes's National Theatre production, but Hollywood beckoned so now it's David Harewood who will have a tough time. Why? His Iago is the excellent Simon Russell Beale.
