Christmas Funkt @ Mass

It may not be the most imaginatively named night, but this is one Xmas party that can be guaranteed to lay off the Slade tunes. Instead of the glamrockers from Wolverhampton, you'll get the freshest progressive house, break- beats and any other grimy urban sounds that the DJs can lay their hands on. In a real act of Christmas spirit, entry is free before 10pm. Lol Hammond, Derek Delarge and Junior Carter feature. There's an urban dress code and an impressively late licence.

St Matthew's Church, London SW4 (0171-771 2000), tonight 9pm-6am, pounds 6- pounds 10

MTV Lick Christmas @ Time & Envy

R'n'B has captured the attention of the music media in 1999, and a great deal of credit for this has to go to Trevor Nelson. His "MTV Lick..." parties have filled venues across the country, attracting as many punters outside the doors hoping to get in, as there are crammed inside.

Romford's huge and impressively dressed Time & Envy club is the location of the "MTV Lick Christmas" bash, which is set to be broadcast live via the internet. Anyone into R'n'B won't need convincing - it's a must.

108 South Street, Romford (0171-344 4444), Tue 9pm-late, pounds 18

Raw Addiction @ The Honey Club

Most of Brighton's clubs have something to recommend them. This is a hands-in-the-air type of affair, as the DJs provide a relentless diet of floor-fillers and house anthems with a strong garage flavour.

Following its refurbishment, the Honey Club has never looked better. Add this to a crowd of inveterate party animals, who never want to go home, and it makes for a great club night.

Kings Rd Arches, Brighton (01273 202807), Friday 10pm-4am, pounds 6-pounds 8

Karanga @ Creation

Since Karanga took over Friday nights at Creation, the place has been buzzing. Their Christmas Eve party looks like being another winner, with Ben Hudson and Andy Fisher keeping the bpms high and the basslines way deep for the 1,500 nutters who'll be turning up.

Baldwin St, Bristol (01225 316198), Friday 9.30pm-4am, pounds 6-pounds 8 AM
