With the wild success of Jonathan Creek, Alan Davies (above) is much in demand as an actor. But he remains a top-class stand-up, too. No earth-shattering radical on stage, Davies scores as an amiable bloke able to highlight the absurdities of everyday life. He muses that Green Lanes, a defiantly urban road in north London, only ever lives up to its name "at midnight on Saturday when everybody is chucking the salad off their kebabs." He heads an "Essex-mas Special" bill featuring Terry Alderton, Ricky Grover, Mandy Knight, John Mann, and Keith Dover at the Comedy Store, on Monday.
