Edinburgh Festival / Day 18: Apparently . . .

PENNY THOMSON, director of the Film Festival for the past three years, announced her resignation as soon as the Festival was closed. She claims that she had served her natural term and wanted to spend more time with other film-makers, but may have had her fingers stung by the Serbian film boycott that rocked the festival in week two.

TWO Australian tourists caused mayhem at the Perrier Award ceremony, it emerged yesterday, by announcing to the doorman that they were the award-winning double-act, Lano and Woodley. Since no one knows what the real Australian duo look like, the ticketless hoaxers had no trouble getting through, leaving the winners scrabbling on the doorstep for admission.
