As fans of BBC2's Fist of Fun will know, the theatre is the most curmudgeonly of art forms, promoted by the terminally smug so that at the end of each performance they can say, "Ah, I see", and bask in a warm glow of superiority.
So what are the stars of Fist of Fun, the comedians Stewart Lee and Richard Herring, doing in Edinburgh this year when they're not appearing on stage together?
Well, Herring has written his first play, Punk's Not Dead, a comedy about the adult reunion of five teenage Sex Pistols fans. Lee, meanwhile, fills his afternoons with a cameo role in Only Human Theatre Company's production of Oblomov. Ah, we see.
