Hollywood’s love-rat pack

What do the following women have in common? Kirsten Dunst, Natalie Portman, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Aniston, Lindsay Lohan and Scarlett Johansson. Clue: it’s not their stylist. Or their dress size. Or even their choice of handbag.

It’s their choice in men. All of these women have shared a partner with at least one of the others, sometimes more. And who are the lucky chaps squiring these beautiful women? Chances are you’ve never heard of them, seen their films or listened to their music.

While once upon a time Hollywood’s leading men could be found surrounded by a gaggle of bejewelled beauties who were the decorative love-interest for rising stars, we now have the opposite. LA’s most powerful, talented and gorgeous leading ladies are being trailed by a coterie of blokes whose job is to wine, dine, and walk the red carpet. The only difference now is, instead of relishing their no-strings relationships, the women fall head over heels, announce engagements, and wind up heart-broken hearted when the rotter dumps them in favour of his next Oscar-nominated conquest. So why are these guys so successful in “love”?

They have almost nothing to recommend them: little fame, even less talent, sparse credibility. Yet they’re sending the celebrity blogs, mags and rags wild. Meet the Love-Rat Pack...

Adam Levine

Age: 30

Profession: Front man of MOR rockers Maroon 5

Currently dating: Rebecca Ginos, a former cocktail waitress

Previous ‘loves’: Cameron Diaz, Natalie Portman, Maria Sharapova, Kirstin Dunst. Also rumoured to have developed a “close friendship” with good girl Leona Lewis; given that she lives with her boyfriend, this seems unlikely. Has previously owned up to a “car fetish”, which could explain his enduring bachelor status

What the gossips say: “Teeny-bopper lust object” – ‘Gawker’

Typical chat-up line: Levine once told ‘Seventeen’ magazine he tries to “Say or do something out of the ordinary,” to impress girls. Then again, he also said: “If you like a girl, you suggest dinner. If you just want to sleep with her, you say you want a drink.” Charming

Love rat rating: 7/10 Caution advised

Paul Sculfor

Age: 37

Profession: Builder-turned-model

Currently dating: Single. For now

Previous ‘loves’: The Essex lad has had serious affairs with both Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz

What the gossips say: “Man, what is it with John Mayer and this guy having the same taste - and success? We sort of hate you, Paul Sculfor” – Hollywood Gossip

Typical chat-up line: “Ever been to Essex?” However, Sculfor tends to be seen not heard; apparently he charmed Cameron |with a trip to his home county.

Love rat rating: 6/10 Mid-range, but building...

Jared Leto

Age: 37

Profession: Actor-turned-musician

Currently dating: He’s free!

Previous ‘loves’: Although he once enjoyed mega-heart throb |status – he dated Cameron Diaz, Lindsay Lohan, Scarlett Johansson amongst others - Leto’s lustiness evaporated as he shifted into a not-terribly-successful music career

What the gossips say: “There's nothing wrong with a little innocent flirting — or is there? Jared Leto certainly doesn’t seem to think so” - ‘OK’

Typical chat-up line: One of his lyrics, perhaps? “Try to let go of the truth/The battles of your youth/'Cause this is just a game”

Love rat rating: 7/10 Past his prime
