If, like myself, you are a huge fan of Lord of the Rings, the perfect Christmas present awaits. Amazon has revealed via their listings that the “Middle-Earth Limited Collector’s Edition” is on the way, including both the extended LOTR trilogy and the extended Hobbit trilogy in one huge collection.

On top of the main films, there are over 60 hours of extra footage, including documentary and extensive behind the scenes clips; all of which features on 30 Blu-ray discs.

To top it all off, each film comes wrapped in a book casing, themselves sitting on a wooden shelf with a compartment to fit a recreation of the Red Book of Westmarch - the book Frodo and Bilbo wrote The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings in. Instead of containing words, however, it contains concept art by Alan Lee and John Howe.

So, how much is this going to set you back? According to io9, there was a price tag of $800 alongside a release date of 4 October. The price has since been removed, perhaps because it is bonkers to think anyone will pay that much for six films.

If you’re lucky enough to have some gold hidden away in your Hobbit hole, however, this could be the greatest box set to ever grace your film collecion.

Previously, some behind-the-scenes footage of the Hobbit found its way online, Peter Jackson admitting in it that The Hobbit was a shambles: “I just started shooting without most of it prepped at all.”
